Asus A716 Giveaway

What I would do with my ASUS Pocket PC if I won. . . .

Postby Banffbears » Feb 17, 2004 @ 3:42pm

I would take full advantage of the video display speed by watching a live video feed from an IP camera that monitors my house. I would connect via a VPN to the IP camera whenever I was away.

When I am not monitoring my house, I would like to develop software that converts the ASUS Pocket PC to a Short Wave radio. This is more of a dream since I am not a technician, have very little knowledge in short wave technology but I have always had an interest in listening to world wide broadcasts. Since this is a pipe dream for now, I think to be more practical I would use the ASUS Pocket PC to write a Sci-Fi novel.

Would be one of the few people who will influence others ...

Postby clueless » Feb 17, 2004 @ 3:51pm

I have been in the pocket pc comunity since before 2000. for the past 4 years I have started and developed a User Group (now called Club) that has grown from the original 7 founding members to over 75 members of which about 30 who attend regular monthly meetings.

My participation in and support of the Pocket PC community has been unending spending many of my personal hours supporting the community. Check out our site at www.PittsburghMobileTech.com and the news link where you will see the years of meetings on Pocket PCs and now any Mobile Technology that I have supported. We were one of the first Pocket PC Clubs ever with Boston and Germany and a few others that formed back in 2000.

I have participated and tried to forward the support and development of Pocket PCs from a grassroot level, working with Beth Goza (Terone) at Microsoft back in late 2000 !!! To Focus Groups at the Philladelphia Mobile Show in 2002 with Microsoft. I have always tried to make sure that the voice of the average user gets to Microsoft and that the average user's issues are heard. I have hosted 3 Large MS events in 2001, 2002 and 2003 to spread the word in the Pittsburgh Area. drawing as much as 150 attendees!!! and many totally NEW to the PocketPC community.
(thats me back row second from the right)
2000 Image
(thats me presenting the intro for our first microsoft major show... Using 802.11B wireless to the laptop and controlling and able to draw on the powerpoint slides being shown on the projector using my IPAQ 8) .. so I was using 802.11B when it was just a novelty..)
2001 Image

My first Unit was an Ipaq when no one know what IPAQ was (the time when you would upgrade your ROM and it would give you the Parrot of Death picture  ) When Active Sync was in version 1.XXX

I later upgraded in 2002 to a Casio E200 and which has served me well after ROM upgrades and Bluetooth/802.11b CF cards ...

but its time for me to upgrade to 2003 to be able to further support the new members with the latest Pocket PC 2003 questions. I recently did a Bluetooth presentation and it would be nice to have a BT embeded device. In May I will be helping put on a connectivity seminar to talk about connectivity and would love to be able to demo this unit connecting up 802.11B, BT to wireless GPRS phone and BT to BT laptop to hardwired Lan Connection ect. so rest assured this unit will get more demo use for years to come.

I also being a Pocket PC Club leader beta test software from Ilum and other great game and utility mfgs. So this will definitely help in that matter going from the slower processor to the Asus 400 Mhz along with the bigger screen from my E200...

So long story short, by awarding me this PocketPC you will not only be helping me but actually helping me help other users in this region with ability to support other users and grow the club. It will also expose others to ASUS which I dont think anyone in our core group has ever owned. So from a marketing standpoint it will be good to Asus as well. thanks for reading thru this and hope to hear good news 8)

PS. If you give this unit to me I will be sure to give my E200 to someone in my club who needs a pocket PC but doesnt have one currently... so the trickle down effect of good will shall continue :D

I would use it to play my plenthora(thats the first time and the last I use that word :? ) of games. Watch videos non stop (Which I do at home on dvd) And bring it with me on those weekly long rides (my parents like to to a small 12-15 hour road trip with no goal, just to ride around I guess. With taht incredible battery life I could go with them and not be bored That battery life is amazing 12 hours that 3 times what I get on my X5.

I would also take advantage of the wifi and blue tooth with multiplayer gaming, such as Warfare Inc. Multiplayer which is soon to come. I would use the fast processor graphics capabilities to play many games that require alot of speed to run such as quake. The buttons I would use to play my games alot better, the dpad looks alot better than my X5's, any dpad is better than the X5.

I would also use it as my laptop replacement, I really want a laptop and my mom is about to cave in but with the Asus 716 I would be able to do everything I wanted to do with a laptop. Wireless internet, hardcore gaming (as hard core as pocket pc games can get), organization (rarely), Videos, and something to make my friends jealous. Something I can carry around and do this stuff. I would also feel more secure with the 716 because I can put it in my pocket and I always can have it on my, with a laptop I will have to carry it in a case and it has a higher risk of being stolen.

I can only hope to win, good luck to everyone participating, one thing I don't understand is why Matt would want to give up such a wonderful unit as that. If I did win I would probably buy the upgraded battery, 12 hours with the 1500 I could only imagine how long the batter will last with the upgraded battery.

Wow thats a long post shapeshifter

I would use A716 to play as much SNES emulation as I could even if it killed my hand I am a true SNES freak. I would use it as a all in one IPOD
but better. It would keep me awake in class for watching movies. it would help me on my HomeWork. keep me form bying a third PDA. Playstation emulation would be so much more better than my Ipaq 1945. I would use it to never buy a GBA SP. If I had the A716 everthing would be right with the world. To sum all this up I need the A716.

I would use the asus a716 in order to help others. Seriously, I beta test for all the major companies, and I would be able to test their products out on the a716 and provide feedback to them. This would really help the gaming industry out. If you would like to help the ppc gaming industry out, give me the unit. :D My current pocketpc has a really weird problem that I have not been able to fix yet. The screen will shift a few pixels to the side, and will slowly turn black until they all just die. Then I have to soft reset the device in order to get it working again. This is real pain, but I have not been able to get the device sent to asus to get it fixed because it will take about a week, and I need it every other day to take notes in philosophy class. I would be able to use the a716 to take notes in class, and this would all me the time to get my a620 fixed. Since the device has a removeable battery, I would be able to use it on long car trips. We usually drive down to south carolina for a vacation, and my old device's battery would die too quickly. The extended battery life of the a716 would be really nice. Since this is a review device, I could probably write up my own review of my experiences with the device after I won it, and send it to PROPortable to post on their site. My dad works at a big company, and he tells me that his co-workers are always asking him about his pda (casio e100.) These people have a good job and and can afford a716's, so I figure I'd let him bring it in to work, and show it off. This would almost definately guarantee sales! I cannot do this currently, because I need my a620 to take notes in class. My college recently strted building a Wireless network, so the internal wireless on the a716 would be a very nice feature for location wireless spots around campus. Right now, I have to carry my wireless card in my pocket, and that is a real pain. Also, bluetooth support.. I would probably buy a bluetooth phone in the near future, because my cell phone currently sucks, and barely works. Of course, I would also use it for games, movies, mp3s. Giving this ppc to me would change my life for the better. It would also help the ppc gaming industry, and might allow for more sales on PROPortable.

I would use the A716 to make real time updates to a web page I run for the parents of children that are unable to attend their kids basketball games (5th & 6th grades). Besides game updates I hope to be able to provide a small video clip for each game using a CF based camera. This would be a much better solution then lugging my laptop around. Thank you for the opportunity to win this great Pocket PC and for your generousity of offering it. Take care.

I would use the power of the Asus A716 to loop my favorite porn videos while I am sitting around between classes at college. 8)
Two cupcakes were in an oven. One turned to the other and said "Damn, it sure is hot in here" and the other one said "HOLY SHIT! A TALKING CUPCAKE!"

To be honest if I won this I'd give it to my mom.

I already have a PDA so I wouldn't need one. But my mom could use one. My ex girlfriend actually stole my mom's palm handheld and she has just never had the money to replace it. I unfortunatly don't have the money to replace it either since college takes the money I do get. She has worked hard all her life to provide for us both. I have never gone without anything.

I recently showed her how wifi works and she thought the idea was just so cool. To be honest this might be more pda than she needs, but the point is that she does deserve one.

Thanks for your time!

Please Help Me!!!

Postby Dominator » Feb 17, 2004 @ 7:30pm

I would use the Asus A716 to cure my constant lower back problem. You see, I am addicted to the internet, ( ) and I truly can not get enough. 2 years back I went out and bought a wireless router just so I could be mobile while surfing at home. Problem is, I only have a desktop computer so I am stuck carrying my desktop whereever I go. Internet addiction is not a funny thing, and it can make you do things you are not proud of.

So although now I am mobile, I constantly have lower back spasms. My Dr. insisted I stop carrying around my desktop, but I just can't do it. Damn Addiction! As I stumple around the internet in all my misery and type in random characters into the Address bar, I was taken to your review. I know it is a sign. I was destined to own the A716. Please do not deny us our fate. My friend, my savior, my hero!

Dominick

p.s. Have I mentioned my lower back spasms causes erectile dysfunction? Please help restore my manhood. My wife will thank you. Actually, she has been happier ever since.... oh well. Please help.

I'd best use the features by bringing it to school and taunting sponge with it because he doesn't have one.
Organic Superlube? Oh, it's great stuff, great stuff. You really have to keep an eye on it, though--it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.
