How bad is your A730 battery?

the fact is a730w is battery is too bad for me

Postby have both loox and a730w » Feb 9, 2005 @ 12:40pm

I have both loox720 and a730w and found out that.
for battery life: a730w cannot be any use to me because after I play with it for a short while battery comes to 70%. I doesn't fit my need.
Loox720 give me enough power for a full day usage with camera using, wifi, playing game, back light to 70%, and use with trenote, dictionary, phatpad and organizer software for my all day work. It is not comparable I could say.

for screen: I think the color on a730w screen is very pale compare to the Loox screen which is very colorful. But one thing asus screen give better is that the white color is real white compare to yellowish white on the loox.

For the touchscreen: I cannot write the smooth line of characters in a730w (there is some zigzag happen). it seems like it doesn't detect my dragging stylush on every pixel on screen. But the loox can give me very good writing and drawing it's like it detect every pixel on screen that my stylus move on.

For camera : normally Asus camera should be better but I don't know why for the unit I have got. My loox camera does work much better than a730w. it snap very fast and clearly with colorful output on colorful screen.

This is real experience from me with both units.
My unit may be not as the same as other so don't complain about what I said. this is only experience.
have both loox and a730w

Justin you seem to miss out on the main point of things. A Pocketpc is suppose to be portable is it not? Poor battery life means always carrying a charger or an extra battery. In no way have I said anything bad about the a730 except for the battery yet you seem to lash out at my posting as if attacked. The a730 is like a step forward and a step backwards at the same time. And as far as you sitting in your high chair as you always do, being battery efficient (and not by a huge margin compared to others) yet having small battery capacity is like saying "My car gets 60mpg but its got a 3gallon tank. The dealer gave me an extra 3gallon gas container if I run out or I can always pump my gas about every 150-180miles."

Anyone else who posts as a guest should be banned... seriously. The design of the 730 was made to be the opposite of the 716... someting that would fit in your pocket better and not be as clunky.. The reason the 716 is as big as it is, is because of the battery..

The comments about the 730 acting funny compared to the loox... i'd like to see a review actually back that up. The screen phyiscally isn't as good.... so the brightness is lower and I doubt the digitizer is better than the 730's. Do you keep the plastic on the screen, or screen protectors?

I'm not siding with anyone here... just trying to get some constructive discussions so please bear with me here...

Portable has different meanings for different people. In any case..... In general, we call our notebooks/laptops as portable PC. We carry those power adapters, mouse, etc and we still call it portable.

About A730W, carrying the extra battery included in the package should be sufficient for us to go through the day. For somebody to carry a power supply, means he/she will be doing some power work/use with their PPC. I do that when I'm in a whole day training. Aside that, I can't imagine how somebody would kill their batteries that easy unless they don't have anything to do than surf wirelessly or watch movie the whole half day. (How I wish I had that time luxury on my hands)

That's just my opinion though. Of course, other people have different way of doing things so an enlightenment to all of us would help to explain why people sees what they are experiencing.

Kind regards...

The difference is, that with the X50v you get 3 times!!! the battery life when watching movies compared to the A730w due to the hardware accelerated video decoding.

Most new Pocket PCs with the VGA screen have poor battery life. For now, you'll need to go QVGA to get a decent battery life.

And adding a second battery or slapping on the extended battery makes the a730 that much smaller than other vga ppcs?

And as far as ppcs being "portable", I believe that ppcs should be made as small as possible with consideration to screen size. Why have to carry more smaller items when you can just carry one slightly larger item. Next thing you know, everyone will have a batman utility strapped up with batteries, cables, the whole deal.

With the current sets of PPC, the smaller it becomes, the less functional it becomes. The A730W is for serious PDA owners only.

Yes, you have the 1800mah battery which would give you much longer life..... when you add the extended battery to any pocket pc they get bigger.....

If you need more life, you get the extened battery or carry an extra battery with you.... you have options.... or maybe you can be realistic about your use and don't use more power than you need at any given time. If you're inside in a dim room, you certainly don't need the brightness on 100%..... if you're playng around with solitaire and contact lists, you don't need the system in turbo mode.....

And carrying around the extra battery isn't bad if you're going to need twice the battery life. The battery is pretty darn small and could fit in your wallet if need be. Asus fit a heck of a lot into the 730 and thats the bottom line. If you don't like it, thats your right but I don't see people bitching that they made the worst choice of thier life when referring to the 730..... I have however heard that when referring to a LOT of other things, including some recent pocket pcs.

Dell's Axim has only 1100 mAh or near that and it can easily last 10 hours at 208 MHz.
dwizard wrote:The 1100mAh battery supplied is rubbish.
Not that you'd want to use it at 208 MHz for 10 hours.
