Compatability?

Postby dario » May 5, 2002 @ 5:51pm

Those benchmarks are deceiving. I own an E200, HP568, and an Audiovox. The E200 is the slowest of the three when it comes to Argentum, RocketElite, Snails, etc. While not as slow as the iPAQ 3800, it is still noticably slower than the other PocketPC2002 devices. And I have all of the latest patches installed so I know it isn't because of the GAPI issue they had last winter.

Really, I haven't experienced that many slowdowns at all, even during the huge battles.

Rob, it isn't that these games run like a dog on the E200 but when switching between the E200 to say the HP568 I notice on the HP568 that they just seem to run a little smoother, and not as choppy. The units and the overall action in Argentum seem to move at a faster pace on the HP568 also. Of course Argentum looks much nicer on the E200. In fact anything looks much nicer on the E200 than the other PCCs (MIPS devices excluded of course). The E200 screen is the best, IMO.

I don't want to digress in an E200 discussion but I wonder if the E200 has some minor GAPI issue similar to the iPAQ 3800 but just not as severe? Other than the PocketTV corruption last winter, of course.

All this is moot though. I talked to an HP rep who says the 400mhz HP574 units are now sitting at the Corporate CompUSA warehouse. They are not allowed to sell them until may 15th though. But at least they have them. Hopefully they won't be too dusty!!! Of course watch all of the GAPI games not work on the new generation of PPCs.

that fps counter doesn't work. it used to work before we added automatic frameskipping so it just gives bogus info now.

Is there any information on the HP website about those H574's?

Changing The Discussion

Postby MicroFiend » May 6, 2002 @ 11:23pm

Changing The Discussion all i can say is that when jimmy software released DoomCE for PPCs and said something like 'He wouldnt produce a port for the Jornada as ID dont like to see thr games run slowly' he was totaly bulshiting he made the port and it was as fast as on my 1ghz dell pc once i free'd up some program memory, and i beleive that argentum would do the same thing, Some of my friends also with Jornadas tried overclocking thr systems using back shelf programs and aside from the one person who ended up with an expensive paper weight, were able to run all sorts of games and stuff @ the same speed (almost) as the Compaq Ipaq, So im sure that although argentum would run slowly and would take time in making the port, it would be worthwile as i know that the every 1 with a jornada would still buy the game so who loses out? Carp and whoever will be making even more mula :o
