I think the 3D-Artist, John Lomax, used Maya.

John is using Maya. Povray is a raytracer. I think Maya is doing scanline rendering (true?), which is much faster. It's only using raytracing for materials with reflections and refractions in.

Povray is pain to work in...I remember seeing my brother building his first 3D stuff in it manually, in the text files...those were the days...

// Fredrik
Howcome two people answer the Q while I'm writing it...John, you are using the default Maya renderer, or are you using something extra, like RenderMan?

Yes just the default renderer, nothing fancy.
Ray tracing I dont like at all, it is too slow in maya and I dont like it too perfect.

John

**Whatever... I love Povray...** Actually, I do, but... Yeah.

What's wrong with POV?

::Uh. Let's see... IT'S SOOOOO SLOW!

That's what I like about it... I like making 3200 by 2400 pictures with a trace level of... oh... 15 with most of the picture made out of little spheres made out of almost completely clear and reflective glass with a background of bumpy gold. And let it sit for about 16 hours or so on my 1.2 GHz T-Bird... (I'm not kidding. I have no life.)

Ha! my Palm CAN do that! Hehe. Actually, only my Pocket PC... Except it takes more like 16 days...
Or weeks... Wait a minute... I'll need a 64 meg upgrade!

Riiight. Well... uhhh... Palm sux. Good bye.

Moray for Windows is a very good modeler / gui for POV. Unlike POV, Moray is not free:

Dan East

Morray eels provide very powerful electric shocks while swimming in the coral reefs off the coast of Australia. Watch out for them.
