They probably dig up the unit ID somewhere deep in the device and then you have to enter it somewhere. Or they just use the definable owner name (like you said) from the PocketPC settings.

Either way, the they convert this string to a regcode using some algorithm.

Shortcomings with this method:
* If it is the ownername that is used then one just has to change the ownername on your device to match the one supplied with the regcode found at a warez site or similiar.
* If you know the unit id of your system (if that is the approach) then you could figure out what algorithm (if you are good) that is used, and write a keygen for everyone to download. This is offcourse a bit harder than the ownername method.

The best would probably be to have separate downloads, one for demo and one for registered version. And to have a regcode. Problem now is that I have no idea how to dig up the unit id. Anyways using this method the chain of events would be something like this:

Download demo
Install the demo
Play the game
Get amazed
Go to the guys who sell it
Choose buy the game
Fill in buying info such as creditcard etc
Download the full game
Install the full game
Start it up
Get a code from the game
Enter that code on the download page
Website generates a new code
Enter new code on device
Enjoy the game

If we will do like that we don't really know. But we will definately have different releases (demo/fullgame).

// Fredrik
