Voxels vs. Pixels

The only thing i know about voxels is that they aren't pixels.<br>So I'd like to know what they are (as opposed to a pixel) and why you are using them, given their past mediocrity (Delta Foce, Delta Force 2).

I always thought that pixels were the small "dots" that draw images on the screens... Right?

I never thought it was an attack question.<br>As you can see in the webpage, the result of voxels is very good, plus we are using them just to generate the map so you won't be seeing any undesired side effects as you may have seen before in other Voxel games.<br>

Pixel is a dot on the screen.<br><br>a voxel is a box volume in one color. Like in Chopper Alley you see when you come sloce to the ground that the ground is built from a series of boxes in different colors and with different heights.<br><br>In argentum we have the same zoom all the time (Sorry guys...), so we just made the short end of our boxes one pixels big so we don't get any blockieness...the height on the "box" is different on though. So basically our voxels are 1 x HEIGHT in size.<br><br>// Fredrik<br>

Voxels is just a technique to generate landscapes. A textured polygon wall in quake is also in the end nothing but pixels. But in the game engine it is a difference between a pixel, a voxel and a polygon.<br><br>// Fredrik

Outcast and it's cutszenes were made using voxel graphics, too. And it looked great! Voxel graphics don't as much processorpower and memory. I think they're just perfect for projects like this!
