Finally, I'll pipe in with a comment about the story.

It is much more believable than the original. My reasons for battling on Mars are much clearer now, and I have a reason to fight for Earth.

Why is it more believeable? Like others have surmised: it been done over and over throughout the history of mankind. Maybe not to this degree. I don't recall England depleting its resources and depending on the Americas for anything other than "riches".

Although I seriously doubt all the planets would be able to rally against Earth, without Earth knowing something was brewing.

Maybe it could be something like we are seeing now, where countries (planets) are drawing the lines and choosing sides over the course of weeks. Closing their borders, one by one and cutting off all ties or offering support.

That could build up as the story progresses. Imagine whipping some serious Martian ass and feeling proud of your accomplishment, until you recieve news that Saturn has launched a crusade against Earthly totalitarism. Saturn fleets are taking position to oblitorate your ass.

I think it is highly unlikely that ALL the planets would revolt against Earth. But to tell you the truth, the original story was a bit sketchy.

Who wrote the latest tome?
