New Map: Icy Inlet

New Map: Icy Inlet

"Commander, the Ni'rikei have set up a small base across this ice-covered inlet. We need you to destroy their command centers as soon as possible."

To add to the excitement and strategy, both you and the Ni'rikei have two command centers each in a different corner of the map. The enemy starts with the advantage of having plenty of defense and lots of gatherers. You must find a way to defeat them.

There is no time to waste ;)

Like the style of your maps, always found them to be strange in a cool way. Plays pretty good from here.

Yes terrain generation software should be pretty good to use. In the real game we didn't use any, I figured out some pretty nice techniques to make nice looking maps while still keeping all the control.

How exactly did you go about making the terrain? I'm not art-inclined, so it seems I don't have much of a choice.

So close to finishing the campaign.. then the beta testing.. woo. hoo.

First you need an art program like Photoshop, I use Photoshop "Elements" that came with my computer. It's just a cheaper edition of the program with a few less features.

After that, the main tip I can give is use LOTS of layers. Icy Inlet had 11 layers, many of which were almost transparent. Sea Storm had 6. The point is, don't try to make you map with just one or two layers, it's too easy to make mistakes.

If you really want you can download the icy inlet psd file from my website:

Don't forget the file is 3.6mb ;)

Oh yeah, sponge, I'll do some betatesting if you want :)

I can't draw for shit though.. so it's not an issue of layers, etc, it's how you get it to look any bit real :P I suppose if I get Bryce working I could use that a bit.

Besides some alignment, map 8 is done, map 2 doesnt work, and map 9 needs to be done (its pretty simple)

But enough talking about my maps :P

Just use something like Bryce 3D, it does black and white height maps for you automatically, and the texture for it.

I remember hearing about something called Terragen, and it looked nice. It was free too.

Update: I just tried this thing, and it's AWESOME!! Requires absolutely no artistc talent to make beautiful landscapes :) You can get it

It should work for making AG maps..
