Small install issue

Small install issue

Postby PointOfLight » Sep 24, 2004 @ 3:29pm

I tried to uninstall PPL from my PPC so I could install the new version, and it told me it was unsuccessful because it could not remove the file lucon.ttf. In order to uninstall PPL, I had to rename lucon.ttf so the the uninstall would skip it and complete the uninstall process. I don't know if there's a way you can bypass particular files on the uninstall or not, but if so you probably want to skip the font file. I've noticed other apps that install fonts to the PPC having similar uninstall problems.

The uninstall would be a function of the installation program you use, though, and not having anything to do with Microsoft, per se. The other option could be to just include the font in the download and have the user manually install it. Ugly solution, I realize, but better than not being able to remove an old version before installing the new one.

I'll check but I don't have a lot of control there.

If you can, try deleting the file and skip it if it fails. This actually seemed to work for me in the 0.6x series of betas.

With some programs open like MicroBook () it uses any fonts that are added and they can't be deleted until the program is closed.

Resco Explorer () is an interesting case. It is great at managing files, but it uses these fonts and can't delete it. I haven't updated in a while, so this may have been fixed.

To delete the font, I have to make sure all programs are closed and then I used the File Explorer that came on my PPC.

I was able to remove the font by hand, but the problem is I shouldn't have to do that before I can run the uninstall. It's not a big deal, but it's a "would be nice" if it could be fixed.
