We do the same. We have a build server running CruiseControl.net that automatically builds, runs tests, fxcop, coverage info, dependency info, etc, on a check-in. Anybody who breaks the check-out has to fix it fast.

I learnt a while back that the only time coding starts getting a bit dull is when you do something for a single purpose. If you need to code something that will be used by 5 people from "whim" requests (as someone mentioned earlier) then spend your time building some reusable libraries as the foundation for the project.

This can benefit future projects and what you learn enables you to tackle the "real work" with confidence and see solutions so much clearer and easier.

There is nothing dull about planning and growing libraries - this has been the biggest challenge and most rewarding part of any coding I've ever done. Everything else is just translating business process into code. And when you do this with ease by reusing and growing your libraries, then any satisfaction and interest coming from the "actual task" is just bonus.
