HP HW6500 Button Issues

HP HW6500 Button Issues

Postby fast_rx » Nov 16, 2006 @ 7:58pm

Just got ahold of a HW6500 and I found that if you roll the control pad across a diagonal, it will not always generate a key up code for up and down.

I verified with a few different games.

The only fix for that is to force button up's for anything other that the new button down - thus destroying the capability to do diagonals.

Unfortunate, since the mini-joystick feels pretty good.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Sounds like the usual stuff - engineers aren't giving gaming a second thought when they design most Pocket PC hardware.

The very first ARM PPC - the iPaq 36xx, couldn't register multiple button presses at once, which pretty much doomed it for most types of games.

I agree with you Dan. That's why all ppc games should be fully playable with the stylus (and fully playable with keys, too). In that way, no matter where your game is, it will work.
Off course, some games do not naturally adapt to the stylus (e.g. platform games) but that's the real "human interface" challenge for mobile game developers.

Best regards,
Sergio.
