Non-English Pocket PCs

I have a question regarding non-english Pocket PCs that I cannot discern from the developer documentation. Anyone with a non-english device can verify this for me. I know that the "My Documents" folder is named appropriately for the target language (ie. it is not in english), and I can determine its name programatically at runtime. My question is are the "Program Files" and "Windows" directories in english, or in the target language of the device?

Thanks!

Dan East

My PocketPC is german; the My Documents-Folder is named "My Documents".
The "program files"-folder has been named to "Programme" and The windows-folder is simply named "Windows".

Hi Dan,
About 10% of my registered users are German and many others worldwide but I have only come across one person whose device had a problem with saving games due to the my documents being in German (don't remember the hardware model). In my cab files creation I use the various "%CE1%" symbols to place files in the correct place on the PocketPC.

Does this help?

Ian

'What is best in life ?'

Thanks! I need to determine the name of the Windows and Program Files directories at runtime. There's a function that can be used to find the name of My Documents, the recycle bin, etc., but not the two I need. As you noted, that information is available through variables for cab files, so it should obviously be available to an application. I may have to try and get it directly from the registry.

Dan East

I think it's named "Windows" in every language, because in this case it's a name - and "Fenster" instead of Windows (in German) just sounds stupid!

I would say "Windows" is not translated. Dunno 'bout "My Documents", it is also called "My Documents" in the german version. "Program files" is translated to the local language.
Ooh, Micro$oft, why can't you just let all folders untranslated and not just translating a few of them? This is stupid. But who knows: Maybe it isn't a bug, but a feature...
