Elements Interactive B.V. releases version 2.70 of its multi-platform mobile game engine Edge. This new version adds support for m-payment solution ClickPayGo, improved support for Symbian devices and an advanced input class.
Chillingo's ClickPayGo is an innovative mobile billing and payment system that allows customers to shop for content directly over their mobile phones through a one-click payment mechanism. Customers sign up for a ClickPayGo electronic wallet and top up their accounts through credit/debit cards or topup scratchcards available through retail stores.
The inclusion of the ClickPayGo API in the Edge SDK enable developers to create innovative content that can generate revenue throughout the life cycle of the content, as opposed to current one-off payment or subscription billing models. The security model of ClickPayGo's micropayment API is based on public key infrastructure which provides maximum protection against fraud and malicious use.
The Edge 2.70 release also includes major enhancements of the Symbian versions of the library. The implementation of Symbian's Direct Screen Access API increases application stability as it doesn't conflict with the window server and fixes an occasional screen refresh bug after minimalization of the application on some devices. Furthermore, the new release includes improved support for devices running Symbian 9.1.
Edge 2.70 also introduces an advanced input class including default key mappings for several supported devices recommended for use in games and menus. All input mappings are fully configurable and can be added and removed through the input module.
Other improvements of the 2.70 release include the addition of functions for establishing and releasing TCP/IP connections to the internet for Windows Mobile and Symbian, fixes of several TCP/IP and HTTP connection issues, the resolving of a small bug related to blitting using DirectX and a function for processing INI data through memory. Furthermore the Edge IDE building tool is enhanced with commandline support and the possibility to create builds for Pocket PC 2002, Smartphone 2002 and Symbian 9.1 (both Series 60 3rd edition and UIQ 3).
