Elements Interactive B.V., Dutch developer of multi-platform mobile game SDK Edge, partners up with United Kingdom based Imagination Technologies, industry leader in embedded graphics and creator of the popular PowerVR brand of 3D accelerators. Its PowerVR graphics technology, supported by the PowerVR Insider program, is the leading advanced embedded graphics technology.

Both companies team up to bring support of OpenGL ES 1.1 (Open Graphics Library for Embedded Systems) to the Edge SDK. The industry-standard OpenGL ES is a subset of the OpenGL 3D graphics API and is specifically designed for embedded devices.

"The combination of a true multi-platform development environment and support for high-performance 3D graphics, including PowerVR acceleration, will make the Edge SDK a valuable tool for developers keen to balance 3D performance with code portability and effective development," says Kristof Beets, third party relations manager, Imagination Technologies.

"Support for OpenGL ES 3D standard is the next logical step in the development path of Edge," says Danny Hoffman, CEO of Elements Interactive. He adds: "The partnership with Imagination Technologies gives us full access to the actual people behind the PowerVR technology, cutting down our development time."

Support for OpenGL ES, planned for Edge SDK 3.00, will be announced soon.

The Edge SDK, with current version 2.95, supports multi-platform development for Windows Mobile Pocket PC, Windows Mobile Smartphone, Symbian Series 60, Series 80, Series 90, UIQ, Gamepark Holdings' GP2X console and Windows desktop. Symbian up to version 9.1 is fully supported.

Key features of the Edge SDK include true multi-platform development, high-performance graphics, RGBA surfaces and PNG support for all platforms, 3D graphics and both Bluetooth and TCP/IP network connectivity. Commercially available game titles like graphical adventures Syberia and Return to Mysterious Island, the action platformer Li-Nuggz and popular multi-player puzzle game Quartz 2 are powered by Edge.
