Yeah I know how that goes I still have my casio box. I am happy with my new PPC and I don't plan to update until 2006 unless I get a really good paying job.

Still using my hp jornada 548

Postby DocMangler » Mar 17, 2004 @ 9:13am

Yeah yeah yeah, it's old, it's kinda slow. But.... while I'm looking for a new machine, I have trouble beating my trusty old hp jornada 548.

The music quality is decent depending on my mp3 or wma quality. I can't play doom on it, but the one thing I really really like is my targus stowaway keyboard. In fact, the full size folding keyboard is the biggest reason I am having trouble selecting a new ppc. The handwriting recognition is great, but for sitting in class and typing up my notes, the Targus can't be beat. Actually, I've even started considering carrying 2x ppc's. One for music and games, and my Jornada for working.

Three I've looked at recently are the Hp Ipaq 2215, the Dell Axim series (built in wifi is hot, and a great price) and the Toshiba e7 series.

The Toshiba screen is great, and it has built in wifi available with 2x expansions, but the battery just plain sucks. Toshiba has been notoriously bad with batteries, and the biggest drawback to the toshiba ppc is that you need to carry a 12v gel cell to keep it running. ;( I'm not sure about the Dell battery, dpad or sound, havent had my hands on one yet, but at $250 to $400 depending on the model, it's price is tough to beat.

Then on the the HP's. Even at $550 to $650 the hp5555 is hot. Beautiful graphics, good speed and plenty of features to make it a usable machine for several years.

I'd like to know more about the Dell, if anybody has tried one please post a review. As for the asus, sound and available keyboard are my biggest concerns. As far as I know, you can still get a Targus for the new Ipaq's, or they will be available soon. Nothing as sweet as sitting down to a laptop sized keyboard and a tiny litttle powerhouse hooked to it.
