Strange graphics issue

Strange graphics issue

Postby Sethsez » Feb 24, 2001 @ 9:57am

I just got the new version of Quake for the iPAQ (BTW, it's fantastic!), and I noticed a small graphical glitch that I hadn't noticed before. The sides of the screen seem to distort the polygons, so they look like they're farther awat then they are. The best place to see this is in the hall for the entrance to Episode 3, with the little row of green marble at eye level for the length of the hall. It appears as if it's going in for about 10 feet when you look at it when it's at the side of the screen and you stand close to it.

You should read other posts first, but since you seem ignorant I'll inform you. This bubbling effect of the polygons is a speed enhancement so the game runs faster. On my Casio it only runs .3 FPS faster, but that's what it's for.

That is a side effect of one of Jacco's 3D optimizations (that increases the FPS by 24%). The perspective is not 100% correct. This is most noticable when you stand against a wall and look down the length of it. This speed improvement / 3D distortion is new to version 0.04.

Dan East

Ya, well. I had already read 3 other posts with newbieish questions and wasn't wanting another one. And talk about it is in everyone one of the top 5 messages. It's hard to miss.
