On a quiet Saturday night/sunday morning......

On a quiet Saturday night/sunday morning......

Postby Chris Edwards » Mar 4, 2001 @ 1:52am

I'm bored and noticed other bored people were also online.

Dan: I'm putting a PayPal/Amazon payment thing online soon. People can donate to the Pocket Quake hosting costs which range at around $250/month for the bandwidth :). Ouch.

If Intel is interested, why don't they help with the hosting costs? (Instead of making us feel guilty?)

Wow, if you're paying $250 per month for pocket quakes bandwidth then you're being ripped off. Not to mention that it doesn't take a genius to mirror the files on major FTPs such as CDRom etc.

Well.. I'll work on mirrors once we hit beta stage. We are still alpha pretty much.

I'll have to talk to Intel (good idea Phat) regarding financing, that would be cool.

$250Canadian. ($178US). And I'm not being ripped off. I'm having a lot of bandwidth transfer.

The price of $250 per month? Ouch; that's kind of expensive!

Why not use Yahoo Website Services at ? They offer 30 gigabytes of bandwidth per month for only $19.95! ....

My website at is hosted by them. They used to be Simple|Net.

Then again, their $19.95 service offering does not offer cgi-bin.

However, you could use them to host the main pages, flash images, and the PocketQuake files - for the cheaper bandwidth.

Each additional 50 megs of disk space is $5 per month, so extra disk space is reasonably inexpensive there.

I imagine besides Quake and the multimedia section, the CGI stuff is the largest. Like, these forums aren't small. BTW, how much is a URL?
