Okay, when you download pak0.pak from this website it is gzipped AND zipped:
pak0.pak.gz.zip

Windows Explorer on your PC is almost undoubtedly set to "Hide known file extensions" so it looks like this:
pak0.pak.gz
even though it is really
pak0.pak.gz.zip

You need to decompress that file (if it ends in .zip) one time, so it is pak0.pak.gz. If you decompress it a second time, so it is pak0.pak, then the file will be more than twice the size, and will most likely not fit on your device.

So, first off, go into the settings for Windows Explorer on your PC and TURN OFF the Hide File Extensions crap. That way what you see is what you get (thanks Microsoft, hiding those file extensions by default really makes the world a better place). Once you have the file to pak0.pak.gz copy it onto your device in the prescribed directory. In some other thread someone tried renaming pak0.pak and stuck a .gz on the end. That will absolutely not work, no more than I can create a text document and stick .exe on the end to make it a program. So if you have decompressed it too many times, and have a 16 MB+ pak0.pak file, and don't have a copy of the original, then the simplest thing for you is to redownload it from this site and start over. Make a copy of it in case you decompress it too many times.

Dan East
