Well, can a single app be optimized for XScale if the OS it's running on isn't? (Just shows you how much I know about software achitecture.)

Premium is the version that comes with all PocketPCs.

The problem with the XScale is a hardware problem for the most part. The memory write speed is a third that of the StrongARM. A new XScale revision is in production, the C1 revision. All current PocketPC's have the B1 revision XScale processor. I don't know about the Zayo, does it have an asset viewer that reveals all of that information?

I think that Moose is right.

But, yeah. If we can get a little overclocking utility, we could increase the benchmarks by at least 10% (since overclocking PPCs generally also overclocks the memory bus). Does anyone know how the change the clockspeed of an XScale? There is a document on some Linux website about how to do that (and more) on a StrongARM. I wonder if there's a similar document somewhere for the XScale.

I am pretty sick of having slow memory. PC100? That's for an old iPAQ! We should be able to get at least some flavor of DDR or an increase in the bus width (i.e. 32-bit memory to 64-bit). BTW, the old iPAQs had good memory, generally. The old iPAQs generally can overclock to 236 MHz (the Jimmy OCing software's limit), whereas other PPCs using StrongARM, like the e200, often times couldn't overclock AT ALL (just underclock).

I downloaded a version of GCC that has an XScale-optimized compiler. If only Microsoft would update eVC 3.0 to have XScale compiler support! I mean, it wouldn't have like 200% in speed, but it would give probably at least a 10-15% increase in some apps (maybe).

Has anyone ever compiled Dan's PocketQuake on GCC?

Device: Dell Axim X5
OS: PPC 2002 Version 3.0.11171(Build 11178)
PQ version: 0.062 Beta
CPU: Intel PXA250 400 MHz XScale

Demo 1: 7.8 FPS
Demo 2: 8.4 FPS
Demo 3: 7.1 FPS

I've had my Axim for 10 days now and I love it!!!! Just switched from a Casio BE-300...needleass to say but what a huge difference! You sure can't beat the price.
