Any Dutchies about?

I've been offered a job in Maastricht and I'm wondering if anybody knows whether it'd be a good place to work. I'm told Dutch taxes are kind of harsh but that as I live outside I can probably get taxed on "only" 70% of my income or something.

If anybody has a good idea for the going daily rate for an experienced IT manager/contractor there too then that'd really kick ass...

You're not thinking about moving out of your new house already are you?

Naaw, it's only a bit further from where we live to Maastricht than it is to Luxembourg city. :) The main "issue" at the moment is that the trains seem to miss each other by 5 minutes, which would leave me sitting on a station platform for 55 minutes each way (hourly train from Liege to Maastricht). I'd probably have to learn to drive :(

Sounds like more trouble than it's worth. I'd rather have the time at home and less income. What do you need money for, anyway? As long as you're making a living wage, which I'm sure you are as an IT person...

Or ask them if you could work from home for a couple days out of the week, through a terminal connection. Then they pay for your internet, too. But I'm sure the market is too competitive to get away with bargaining stuff like that. There are other people closer and willing to work for less, ALWAYS.

Just tell them "I'm sorry, but I respectfully decline your offer, at the advice of my friends at PocketMatrix.com".

They've offered me ~27% more than I get right now. That would be dependent on me getting the "30%" thing that they have for people coming in from other countries too. The rate of tax is ~40%, which is just frightening (here I pay ~21%, inclusive of social security and pension).

So, the current plan is:

1. Go for the interview
2. Take the job when it's offered ;)
3. Learn to drive ASAFP
4. Drive 1.5 hours to work and back each day
