If it weren't playable this forum would not be successful.

There is a registry setting that increases the amount of GDI memory used. I doubled this figure and it raised my FPS by 0.2FPS with a completely blank config file. I'm going to double it again to see what kind of figures I can come up with. Here's the registry setting, you can use Dan East's DEXplor (http://www.dex-plor.com) to edit the registry.

HLM\System\GDI\GLYPHCACHE

Edit the "limit" value, should be 8192. I doubled it to 16384. If you've got a lot of free RAM on your PocketPC then double that again to 32768. Remember to soft reset your device after editting the registry or else they won't take.
I'll be back in a minute to tell you how much more 32KB of video memory helps and give you a little table of the different values.

AMAZING!

with 32768 I got an additional 0.6FPS above the normal speed on my iPaq H3955

8192 = 7.8 FPS
16384 = 8.0 FPS
32768 = 8.4 FPS

8192 is the normal setting that all PocketPCs use by default. Y'all with lots of free program memory better get to it with this setting. This is running faster than it did on my old 486/66! Dare I double the memory limit once more? 65536 ... that's CRAZY! I'm doing it! :D

[EDIT]
65536 = 8.0 FPS
Looks like 32768 is the best value, anything more and it gets to be too much. :( ... oh well! 8.4FPS is fast enough for me, especially when it's just a simple registry hack! :D

This makes it run as fast as regular StrongARM 206MHz, also, or nearly as fast. It's faster than the H3800 series PocketPC and only slightly slower than the H3600 series

Wow.. I forgot about this tweak, I need to try it again. So busy though, with midterms coming up, and a webpage design in progress..

After 32768, it will have no effect.

Sorry to disapoint you, but my 3835 runs the demo at 8.7 no OC or optimization, 10.4 running at 236mHZ no optimization, and 14.3 with optimal .cfg

I will try the hack now and report it.

Did the 32768 hack first, neither of the 3 test reached 14fps. Did the 16384, and the highest mark was 14fps.

I will leave it at 16384, and test again in the morning. It seems that the hack has no effect on my 3835, but I will see what it does in the morning.

We have 8.3FPS listed as the FPS on the H3835 on our Benchmark archive, that's what I was going by.

Then what does that tell us? That the updates for iPAQ's benafited the 3800 user's the most? ;)

Or, you might need to update it again... :o

Anyway, not bad for your unit. The Hack does not bring any increase to my demo marks, they were actually lower. I was not able to achive more than 14fps on either hack, but I'm sure there are some other's who will profit from the hack.

what tools are you guys using to benchmark pocket quake and are you running it in landscape or portrate mode

i have a toshiba e740(400mhz x-scale 64mb ram) and i get about 8-12 fps in landscape and 18-20 in portrate but those are just estemates based upon smoothness of the game

Your not getting 18-20, no device has gotten that high, and the e740 has speed problems.

"timedemo demo1" in the console.

with my config posted above (exept viewsize is now 100) i get 19.2fps at 528mhz.

well, it is not very practical, i`ve got to have it plugged in. :)

Oh, 528MHz with an optimized config, that's a different story.
