Strategic Assault II - Ideas

Strategic Assault II - Ideas

Postby JMarkevich » Feb 6, 2003 @ 4:49am

My guess is this is too complex to add to the existing product... please feel free to tell me otherwise!

I mostly kinda miss telling a unit to guard; or patrol an area. I'm kinda spoiled from Total Annihilation 8)

It would also be nice to have a tiny bar graph on top of the screen to show battery level. I tend to get carried away sometimes :)

How about a manual of some sort?

This game is great, small, tight and the price is AMAZING. As much as I and most people would like a map editor, I think we already got more than we paid for, and more mission packs would be as least as welcome.

Thanks for your comments, I'm glad you like the game :)

I'm afraid its unlikely that we will add guard/patrol options. We arent planning an SA2 at the moment either, but I suppose we might in the future.

The mapeditor will be out this week (no, really) by sunday at the very latest.

We will also put a more detailed manual up on our website soon.

The only other expansion to SA we are planning is multiplayer sometime this year.

Well I just gave you an idea for another product, didn't I? :)

Also another idea for "visibility" is to put an actual "Forest Fire" product page up instead of just pointing to SA.

How big is your company, if you don't mind saying? Is it just you? Are all these whiners asking for a level editor doing so at the expense of other products?

Like to ask more questions, but it's cutting in to my playing time.

Its not just me, there are a few of us. Actually the new mapeditor is written to be very flexible so we can use it in many games, we would have written it anyway. We have more games on the way, but we have decided not to announce any more details until they are further along.

Well im starting to get sick of hearing that it will be out for sure this day, then it doesnt come out, then we hear that it will be out for sure three days later and once again it doesnt come out. If your gonna promise that something will be out on a certain day, then it SHOULD come out that day! Im sorry to be a pain, but its starting to get a little anoying!

Clearly you've never written any software... it takes a while to get it ready for release, and even then you find bugs.

A developer is always concerned about what they put their name on.

It will come, someday. Hopefully you will express your thanks as vocally as you've expressed your disappointment....

I have written software before, and I know how it works. I also know that when a promise is made, it should be kept!

VB doesn't count as written software. You clearly have NO idea how large of a project this is. Shit happens. Deal with it, instead of whining.

Ok, I agree with you, but my point is that we have been told for over a year now that this level editor is being made and that we will have it soon. Month after Month we are told this and it never happens. I relize that the developers have other projects to do and that things do happen, but in that case dont keep leading the customers on telling them that it is coming.

It's only been a month or so since a level editor was even promised. Missed release dates are just another part of software development, and as for guessing dates, you can't do much about accounting for unforseen problems.

Hi,

Thanks Sponge!

To the best of my memory the facts are (and if I am wrong please correct me):

Yes, Strategic Assault has been out for over a year, BUT when it was released no mapeditor was announced or promised.

Months ago we did mention that a mapeditor was planned but didnt commit to a specific date. I admit I had hoped to get around to it sooner than it has actually worked out as, but there you go.

Recently I did say we planned to release it in Jan, and then at the end of Jan yes I promised it for this week.

I understand why you are bored of waiting, if you count from the release of the game or when I first mentioned the maped it has certainly been a long time. But in terms of missed deadlines I dont think you can accuse me of any more than the time since the end of Jan (if you count 'planned' as a definite commitment) or from the end of this week (promised certainly does count as a commitment i agree).

I still hope to release something tonight (hence hitting the deadline IMO), but if its tomorrow I still think I only overran by a single day.

Anyway, I hope you will forgive the delay.

Either way I'm going to make a map or two, delay or not. Since future projects are going to rely on this, I'm sure not complaining.

Simon: I assume this will require an update to Strategic Assualt? If so, I got my copy from the Mini CD, would there be a way I could get if any new versions come out?
