Voxels vs. Pixels

What I mean is that maybe it would be nice to have a zoom out mode, maybe more like a map mode, like in C&C. At least you could then see more quickly where everything is. I doubt that would make the fps lower!
Die, Palm, Die. If that offended you, then get rid of your Palm OS device.

He's talking about a picture of the entire map in the top right hand corner. But you can't play an RTS game without a map, so that was a dumb suggestion. Of course it will be in there.

I think, maybe he meant the ability to zoom out the actual playing field to see it in detail; as opposed to the non-detailed minimap in the corner... this way it might be easier to view what actions are going on where instead of trying to distinguish what the green and red dots in the corner of the screen are doing.

ow...

...don't want to code sprite scaling...even if it means just skipping a few pixels. Not that it is very hard to do, but having the whole game using different zoom levels would mean quite some extensive modifications...and really the nessesity isn't that big to make it worth the effort. Starcraft is a great game even though it doesn't have zoom. Actually not having zoom can add to the strategic part of the game. :)

BTW, we should pretty soon have some ingame shots and a webcam movie ready for you to download. Sorry for the delay. Anyways...You'll like the game. Specially when we put some effort into map texture making (ie. the final game).

// Fredrik
Fredrik, instead of using a webcam, you should use that remote display control to see and control your ppc from your desktop then use one of those video capture progs to capture the video on the desktop.

Much better quality. You'll need to dub it of course but thats a case of running a cable from the ppc to the pc.

You mean virtual ipaq/em500? It updates to slow...feels like less than 1 fps per second. Or is there something else?

// Fredrik

I tested both "Virtual iPAQ" and the "Remote Display Control Application". In my opinion they are too slow to capture videos.

Last modification: Diego Cueva - 06/18/01 at 14:00:05
