Argentum updated!

Argentum updated!

Postby Malmer » Jun 27, 2003 @ 4:21pm

We've released a new version of Argentum. This one is numbered 1.2. Here are the new things:

* Pocket PC 2003 support. It runs soo smooth on the new iPAQ 2215!
* Finally fixed the bug where it crashed after the tutorial
* Much better map shading code. Hills now have a highlight and shadows are much more accurate
* Custom maps can have a height texture. Documentation and tools related to this will come.
* More accurate ship shadows
* Various performance and visual bugs corrected

The game should be available at handango at this moment, and pocketgear should probably also update thier records in just a moment (they are sometimes a bit slow). The demo version is also updated.

Update:
Download a patch from 1.1 to 1.2 from

Apparently PocketGear is a bit slow. The page is updated. The demo download is not...

I purchased mine from the Monkeystone site when it first came out. I forgot how the last update worked for them. I think I have the receipt page saved somewhere. If I cannot find it am I screwed? Thanks for whatever help you can offer.

I believe that if you e-mail them you can get a copy of the password you need, they might even have a password recovery system like hanago or pocketgear. try looking into that first.

As soon as I can grab the update, I'm going to clean up my maps, and reupload them, I think most of them are 404s now. I also hunted down my campaign, so I can put that up.

Malmer: Has the custom map list bug been fixed?

so how long is the wait on pocketgamer going to be? The version they have currently is still version 1.0 and not 1.1 like it should be. so they are infact 2 versions behind. this kinda sucks

All I want to know is whether by being compiled with the 2003 SDK it is faster or not. I mean, related to being built with evc 3.0

I'm not looking for an "it is optimized for Xscale" discussion here, what I want to know if it's worth the pain of having to handle two binaries, one for PPC2k3 and other for the old ones.

Yea, if anything, you'll get speedups from the bus speed and PXA255, not the compiler. ie PocketQuake, people are getting 18FPS on the new Asus, no optimizations. I wouldn't waste your time, unless the PPC2K3 binaries are backward compatible, but I'd doubt it. IANAD though (I am not a developer :P)

There aren't any cheats still right? Would like to be able to view the whole map to make sure my maps look good with the new version, once it's up on Monkeystone.

a note to all developers...PLEASE re-compile your games and apps with the latest compiler...it has huge optimizations for X-scale which only work on Pocket PC 2003...btw, PXA255 has nothing to do with it.
