Postby IXIBlackDragnIXI » Jun 27, 2003 @ 6:38pm

alrite, heres the breakdown. the pak file is in a folder called id1 which is in a folder titled quake.

program files > quake > id1 > pak file

and yet it still doesnt work. damn

shut up, goku. unless you plan on making your own website and combining the files for the good of everyone, dont talk.

gfx.wad

Postby soccarrfreak » Sep 28, 2003 @ 11:55pm

i have read the directions on how to fix this problem over and over again. i didnt get it at first because i didnt know where to get the pak file from. i finally figured out how to get that and i downloaded it from the download section. am i supposed to create a new folder called quake right on the screen after "my pocket pc" (after hitting explore)? - thats what i have been doing and it hasnt worked. also am i supposed to create a folder called id1 inside that folder and am i supposed to put just the pak file in that one and the rest just in the "quake" folder. last, am i supposed to do anything to the pak file i download, or just copy it as it is. one last thing, the gx.dll is in the quake download but when i copy the four files in the download, it only "puts" three on - then when i try to copy the gx.dll alone it asks me if i want to replace the old one as if it is there, but i cant see it.

if you could help that would be great,
thanks

gx.dll is there, but it sounds like it's hidden. Quake should be in the root, not in My Documents or anything, which it sounds like you have.
holy internets batman.

gfx.wad

Postby soccarrfreak » Sep 29, 2003 @ 12:38am

it isnt in my documents. i create a quake folder on the screen where you can pick my documents, program files, temp, windows, etc. (the one right after you click "my pocket pc" in the explore option. then the first way i tried to make it work was i copied all of the files in the download (there are four of them) and then clicked paste inside the quake folder i had created. after doing this when i click on quake it gives me that gfx.wad error. i didnt know there was a pak file you had to download. so after i knew that i found where to download it. however, i can only put that file in my quake folder if i do it just as it is after download, if i try to put the file that you see after double clicking the downloaded file in the folder, it doesnt give me paste as an option. also how am i supposed to know if the gx.dll is on if i cant see it, i dont know how to show the hidden files. in the download page it says to make sure the pak file is in the quake/id1/ folder, so that means i need to create quake and id1 right? is that id1 folder necessary though. like do i need to put only the pak file in the id1 folder and put the others only in the quake folder? if someone could continue to help that would be awesome. - if you need me to be more specific about something ask. i know a lot about regular pc's but im sort of new to pocket pc's.

thanks - my aim sn is soccarrfreak if that would help.

so i create a quake folder, then an id1 folder in that one, and then put all the files in it? - and i still havent hear whether i need to do anything with the pak file. it will only let me put it on the ppc if i leave it as is after the download. is that how it's supposed to be?

The PAK file IS the game. You should unzip it, but do not ungzip it (it should have a .gz extension after you extract it, not a .zip extension). It goes in the ID1\ folder inside the \Quake\ root folder that you create.
