The iPaq uses a reflective display. The sidelight is on the right side of the display, and shines across it. Other LCD displays typically use a backlight, where the light is filtered by the LCD to generate the various colors. Reflective displays have the advantage of benefiting from ambient light, while backlit displays are harder to read with brighter environments. The tint you see is the result of the light shining parallel to the various display layers, which refracts it (probably primarily the touchpad film) much more than with backlight displays, where the light passes through the layers at a perpendicular angle.<br><br>Dan East
