CF vs gZip?

CF vs gZip?

Postby Qwik » Jan 28, 2001 @ 3:54pm

Which results in faster load times, running PocketQuake with the compressed PAK files in RAM, or running PocketQuake with an uncompressed PAK file on a CF card? Thanks.

Uncompressed on a CF is much MUCH faster when it comes to loading.

It's quite nice, I recommend it to anyone who has the space.
Placing the pak file uncompressed on a 64 MB iPaq would yield by far the best results... :)

Dan East

You simply need gUnzip, Winzip, or any other archive that can uncompress gzip files (.gz). Winzip would be easiest. To play quake on CF, make a \quake directory on the storage card, and also make a \quake\id1 directory on the storage card. Copy the executable, .cfg files, and the uncompressed pak0.pak file into the \quake\id1 directory on your storage card. Run quake.exe and it should work.
