Edge SDK 2.50 released

Elements Interactive B.V. releases version 2.50 of its multi-platform mobile game engine Edge. This new version adds support for the GamePark Holdings GP2X console and native support for Symbian 8.0 and 8.1.

The GP2X, created and distributed by GamePark Holdings of Korea, is a handheld game console running Embedded Linux. Edge SDK 2.50 enables developers to port their Edge-powered games to the GP2X platform just as easy as the other supported platforms.

"The support of the GP2X console shows our commitment to the developer community," says Danny Hoffman, Elements Interactive CEO. "We made a promise to continuously improve the engine and add new features to the library on a regular basis."

Johan Bos, senior Edge developer, adds: "The support of the GP2X paves the way for adding support of other Linux-powered devices. We believe this will keep Edge the most powerful and feature-rich mobile game engine around."

With the support of Symbian 8.0 and Symbian 8.1 game developers are able to compile native applications for devices running these operation systems. This gives developers the opportunity to create games supporting high-resolution screens of the newest generation of mobile phones, such as the Nokia N90.

The Edge 2.50 release also introduces a beta version of the Edge IDE tool, which gives developers the possibility to compile and build Edge-powered applications for different platforms more easily. Also added are a new INI file class, new math and string functions, functions to retrieve battery information and a few improvements in the file and 3d classes. A full list of additions and changes can be found on the product website located at http://www.edgelib.com.

An evaluation version can be downloaded for free. Edge licensees are entitled to download and install the commercial version of the new Edge SDK.
