A Google search led me to a forum entry titled Unofficial eMachine Forum, so I registered and here I am. I hope someone can help with some info.
My W2785 eMachine, Athlon XP 2700, Socket A(462?) seems to have blown the power supply and taken the mobo with it. If I can get a mobo at reasonable cost I'll revive it, as long as the processor hasn't been fried too. So, first question is how can I test if one or both are dead? I took out all adapters, powered on with new power supply, and power seems to come on OK. Power supply fan and processor fan spin up, but no beeps at all, and no POST on screen.
And, if I get anything but exact replacement mobo (AM39L) will the system boot up? I've heard eMachine mobo's and BIOS must be exact for it to boot. Truth? I've found a mobo with AM39 on it, but eMachine mobo has AM39L on it. Is this the difference between standard mATX mobo and eMachine version of this mobo?
Is there any way to put the existing, bootable 80 GB hard disk in another system and get it to boot? How about a repair install? I've been told that if I try to boot this disk in a different system it will only boot once and lock up???
Thanks for any tips or pointers.
