Uploading Textures onto 2700G (X50v)

OpenGL ES does not allow direct video memory access. Hence there's also no glDrawImage().

There is actually an extension for this: http://www.khronos.org/registry/gles/extensions/OES/OES_draw_texture.txt
But, of course, it requires uploading the image into texture memory first.

Interesting. I didn't know this one.

Yet, it sounds pretty useless to me. As they write again and again in the extension description it behaves exactly as texturing. So where's the benefit?

Well, it definitively has its purpose.

However, from what I understand, you really just want the camera image as background, so the upcoming compositing engine ("OpenWF") will be more appropriate for you http://203.233.19.7/file/vod/2007_kats_001_006.ppt. But that's still in its infancy.
