I just got from
PocketGamer
and i saw the new topic about a video of the new FPSE (Playstation emulator on your pocket pc).
This video shows you how an Asus A620 runs Gran Tourismo at 30FPS!
I thought i should post it here
Download the video (about 3mb)
here
.
Now i have one question....
If there is a Pocket PC with a 700Mhz processor (Xscale i think), would the emulator run even faster?

Im tring to get something to run on fpse on my 2215 to compair.
If the a620 is getting this kind of speed I can't wait and see how well a 533mhz sam with a 3d gfx card will do.

That's neat, because 30FPS was all the faster Playstation natively ran.

No wait, that's BS. It's just rendering 30 frames, it's running really slowly in the video!

Looks like 15fps to me. But if you look at the fps ticker it gets up to like 36fps
The fact that it is even running is cool though.
I don't think thats a slow-mo replay but maybe he has frame skip on or something

I don't care how many frames are rendered in a second, I care how many are DISPLAYED!

If this 3D game is running at 30FPS (although the movie seems to run a bit slower ), i think that the 2D games (or simple 3D games like RPG's) will run a bit faster.
I can't wait untill i have my PPC .
I sure am going to try out this emulator!
Back to my question, will FPSE run even faster if its running on a 700Mhz PPC? What framerates will you get then?

How could we tell there is no 700 mhz out right now. But I suppose it would run faster.

probably around 65% faster than current speeds. For instance, PQ would run at 35 FPS on a 700MHz device, or thereabouts.

The emulator is running at 30 'PSX frames' per sec - half of PSX speed. So the game will be running at 15fps on the emulator.
Still, it's very impressive, considering the lousy speed of some native PocketPC 3D games...

Ok I finaly got a rom that fit on my ppc and it seems to not work well Ill keep messing around.
Any ways , From the looks of that video It looks playable and for now thats good enough for me .
I would really like to know how big the file was , how many buttons it needs ( just gas and brake right? ) and if this new arm one they were running it on is the one that can be downloaded on there site or is it not released yet.
Well I doubt any one here know's the answers to these questions but if you do please go a head and answer them. Thank you!

I know there is no 700Mhz Pocket PC out.... yet.
There will be a new pocket pc available (ipaq) in october, that has a 700Mhz CPU with 512mb RAM.
About the size of the games.
I've heard that you can 'rip' your PSX games to sizes like 10, 20 MB.
I've tried this myself with a game called Soul Blade (fighting game).
It was around 500mb, when i ripped it it was around 30 or 40mb!
So the sizes of the games are pretty low, if you cut out the videos.
I did a search on google, and found a program called PSXmc that can RIP the movies (and a couple of sound files) out of your game.
I don't know how it works, but i've read that works .
get the program
here
(japanese site) or use
this
direct link.
Please do understand that i am not supporting Warez stuff of any kind, offering a solution to play your PSX games on your PPC.
Thanks for listening again .
