Is PQ playable in Multiplayer with 2 PDA in Wifi Ad-Hoc?

Postby schtruck » Oct 3, 2003 @ 5:48pm

We tried today with a Friend to run PQT with our ASUS A620 and wifi card , but it seem that when we start a PQ Server in one PDA, there is no solution to connect with the Other PDA in Wifi.

have i missed something? is server mode is implement in PQ?

thanks for your answer.

I do not believe that a PocketPC can host a Quake game. Even though it appears to be hosting it isn't accessible to other devices. I believe that that is the case, but I am not sure.

Pocket Quake should be able to host a game. However it cannot run as a dedicated server. The problem is probably in automatically finding the other devices. Try using static IP addresses or finding the dynamic address of the server PPC and specifying it explicitly in the "Join Game At" edit box.

thanks Dan for your answer,

We tried to put IP directly, but no success, we got still the message "Server not found".

We tried Snail in ad-Hoc, it Run well , but i think they Use UDP.....Perhaps the solution...

Perhaps , there is a trick to configure Wifi to make it workable.

our test hardware is:
- One ASUS A620 with a CF Wifi card, PPC2003
- One HP IPAQ 2210 with same CF Wifi card, PPC2003
Here is how we have configured the PDA running server for the Wifi:
- Settings/Connections/Advanced/Network Card/Add New Setting, NetWork Name 'PQS', 'This is an ad-hoc' is selected, Wep desactivated (to be sure)
Then a Popup comes asking in which mode We want to Connect to this Wifi Ad-Hoc, then we choose 'Work'

On the other PDA , There is the same popup ask if we want to connect to this Ad-hoc device, then we choose 'Work'.

After we start PQ1 on the PDA (server), by choosing,
Multiplayer/New Game/TCP/IP, here adress is usualy first time INADDR_ANY, then OK

Then we start the Client on the Other PDA, by Choosing, Multiplayer/New Game/Join A Game/TCP/IP
Here 'Search For Local Games' return always 'No quake Server Found'
If we Tried to put The IP address of the Server we Can see by Restarting (for the second time) a server, same message, 'No Quake Server Found'

Any Idear is Welcome :) :)

thanks you.

Quake uses UDP/IP too, and not the higher TCP layer.

Anyone else been able to host a game on Pocket Quake that others have connected to?

Hello,

What i can say is that TCP/IP is complete in PocketPC , because we tried the Game DogFight with Three PocketPC (2 Asus A620 and 1 IPAQ 2210, all three in Wifi) in multiplayer and all worked very well.
in the first ASUS we ran the Server and a Client to play, and in other only a Client.

Dog-Fight run very well in multiplayer...

so i confirm , there is a problem in the Server Mode of Pocket Quake

well, so what is the current state of the problem?

i guess we can say that the host game functions are not properly ported
i did all kinds of tests and ppc q cannot host a game..

I have played both Quake 1 and Quake 2 over wifi in infrastructure mode. I was able to get quake 1 to play in adhoc mode, you have to set the ips on both devices to an iprange on thats logically routable, like 192.168.10.1 and 192.168.10.2. Works fine.
