Is there any chance of this stinking game getting ported over to PPCs anytime soon?, I'm sure I'm not the only one to ask this but damn...
Does the source still have to be released to the public or something? I remember hearing that it might have a long time ago but havent heard squat since. This is too good a game to be ignored, sure the upcoming sequel Duke Nukem Forever contains a secret message in its title about its true release date, but I was hoping by now we would have some progress on the next best thing the great Duke3D, yes I'm also sure you know I do not have the skills to accomplish such a feat, but in case theres some bored programmers/hackers around, feel free to work on a Duke3D port, maybe we need to sweeten the deal and donate $$ to whoever tries, ante up!... :D :) :? :( :x

Duke uses x86 ASM which would need to be ported, there's a big stumbling block right there. There is a Win32 port at least, however that migiht use SDL, which is another problem.

Someone said he's working on a pocketpc port of Duke3D, he has also set up a site (which haven't been updated for almost 1/2 year), look here:

The x86 assembly has already been converted to C. I fail to see how SDL should be singled out as a problem. In fact, it might be possible to use the unsupported WinCE SDL to do a "lazy" Duke 3D port. I'd imagine the incomplete C library for the PPC is going to be the more problematic. I'm no porting expert though, so don't quote me on it .

Considering video and renderring code would need to be written in order to get the SDL out, I think it'd be substantial enough. I can't imagine what the speed would be on that sorta-port, if it's as rough as you infer.

Umm...I doubt SDL is being used as anything more than a frame-buffer, as far as video goes. I'll just go check the Build/Duke3D, so I can verify this assumption of mine...
*checks the Build/Duke3D source*
Yep, it appears as though the SDL video code has been abstracted from the Build engine. On account of being smashed, I didn't look very hard though.

With little trouble, I've got most of the Build engine compiling for the PocketPC. This includes rendering and everything else but the SDL based video code. Just a warning: Don't expect a playable Build and Duke Nukem 3D PocketPC port to eventuate from my hacking.

Well, maybe you can get together with some other coders and get something going. People have been asking at a pretty constant rate since, well since Doom was released
I would be greatly indebted to whoever gets something to run on a ppc!

I'll take your word for it then, considering your a programmer, and I'm not :P
If the video doesn't work, then what does it do?

Well *if* I write any code that could be useful to anyone else, I'll release it. Uni starts tomorrow, so between that and my other projects, I'm probably not going to have an awful lot of time to port the rest of Build (let alone Duke), *if* I decided to. Take note of those if's .

Well since I can't do a full compile yet, it can't do anything.
