Hey now!

Postby favek » Nov 13, 2002 @ 1:56am

Wow! You guys are killer! Thank you so much for all of your input.

fzammetti - thanks for your suggestion, but I was looking for something a little more up to date. I do 3d animation (something I failed to mention) and it needs to be able to support fluid video without any hiccups. I am sure the Casio screen kick mucho ass though. LOL, ya...outdoors? Whats that?

(TSC)Bender - Budget limitations?! That something I dont want to hear when I want a bad ass pda. Thanks for the heads up!

MooseMaster - The Genio looks pretty, but I see (and I may be wrong) that it cpu is a 206mhz. Seems slow. I always been one of those guys that would rather buy a smaller TV with better color and resolution than a bigger one with it lacking in those areas. Projection big screen TV's, blah!
On your 3955, does it play games well? How about that diaganol movement? Thanks you for your input.

And to the rest, thanks for your replies!

LOL! You took it the wrong way.

I don't have a preoccupation with getting a current device, I have a preoccupation with buying devices that are AVAILABLE and SUPPORTED, let alone up to date and compatible with software.

And he also said we wanted a PPC for "XMas" ... I don't think he'll find an E-125 anywhere. And I doubt he'll want to get a used E-125 for the Holidays.

favek. The Genio e550 runs a 400MHz XScale... but note that the 400MHz Xscale is slower than the 206MHz in many applications. The XScale's feature is battery life, which means performance suffers. On average the XScale is as fast, maybe slightly (less than 10%) faster than the 206MHz StrongARM.

The Asus Zayo, however, features faster RAM and a well designed motherboard mean that it runs much faster than other XScale or ARM devices.

uhm... where was I? TV distracted me... oh well :/

No problem Moose, I probably did take it the wrong way. The weather is like Seattle around here today, must be affecting me mentally. :)
...and so I said to Mr. Gates: "$640 billion should be enough for anyone!"

I'd suggest the 3955. About $600 in most places, though you can surely find cheaper. It's an XScale, but not many programs have slowdowns. There's even a pocket version of Blender, though it's useless :P

For videos, you might want to try the e740, which is able to play 640kbit DivX files without a single dropped frame with the unreleased patch. Not sure how the screen is in comparison to the 3900.

I'd look at either one of those, you won't be disappointed either way. Have a 3955 myself, and the slowdowns are really aren't that big of an issue in most programs, coming from a 3630 (206mhz SA)

For your needs, I would recommend the Razor Zayo. Its got the perfect balance for what your looking for, not just whoop ass in one category.

Its screen is reflective. Best outdoors, and one of the best reflectives indoors I hear. Only thing that beats it is the transreflectives of course.

Speed for 3D animation is another concern. This is the fastest PDA (Toshiba e740 faster with video). This is because of the motherboard and faster RAM I recall someone saying. The e740 has a yellowish hue on white colors and the display is darker than usual.

Any other vital details you might have left out? So....yeah....if money is not an object, I recommend the Zayo. Because its made by the guys that make scooters

If you can wait, ill be getting mine the 18th (GOD SO LONG!!!). Im dying from the wait, so it better be awesome as hell :)

Hey Bender are you get yer Razor on the 18th of this month? I wont be getting mine (whatever it is) to probably a week before xmas.

See the problem I have with screens like the Razor is that if you sitting with somebody or a group of somebodies. Not everybody can see it clearly. The person that has the best view is the person holding it. My girlfriends kick ass laptop does that and it drives me bonkers!

I know it a portable world whether it be a pda or a laptop the most important user is THE user, the person in front of the screen. But I would like a screen to be viewable to the person right of me, behind me or whatever. Know what I mean?

But from what u say the Razor sounds like a speed demon.

I think I am still leaning towards the Ipaq 3955.

When you get yer razor PLEASE tell me how the screen looks. Thanks!

I have the same problem with my Jornada. When you turn it to the side, it looks like its turned off, even on the brightest setting.

I also found out in a review that its bottom-lighted. The backlight emits from the bottom, so when you look at it from an angle, the top part of the screen is a little dark. Its evenly lighted when you look at it like you usually do surprisingly.

I also don't think any PDA screen is easily viewable from an angle. When I go to a retailer next time, ill take a look and find out if they are.

So many choices!

I think the colors on the Zayo are most accurate than the ones on the other reflectives. The Ipaq 38xx series looks brighter, but look at the first picture...ewww :?

We need some comparison pics with transreflectives, and the Zayo. That won't happen for a while.
