NonToxic (quite possibly the youngest programmer I know - working on the bootloader and kernel at that. Impressed the hell out of me.) managed to get the bootldr running on a Dell I believe. Drivers will have to be written for pretty much all the hardware.
In conclusion? Don't bet on it soon. The cheapest device that can or will run Linux in the forseeable future is the 1900. I'd look into the 3800 though.
