It might be a problem with 2003. Let me check it out on my 3955 (the original Metalion)

[edit] Definitely a problem with 2003. Metalion 1 lags and crashes when you hit options/high scores as you say.

Sponge - that's all I needed to know, which basically solves the mystery, at least I know it's nothing on my end, but rather a severe lack-O-compatiblity courtesy of Ziosoft.
