X30 vs A730

Postby RChickenMan » Jun 15, 2004 @ 6:17pm

Well yeah, of course you don't map the center button. That's not necessarily the problem, though. I never map the center button with any PDA that I use. The problem is the oval d-pad makes quick direction changes a bit complicated, and even worse, diagonals are VERY difficult to do. So basically, don't play Marble Madness. Despite what others say, I really don't find the d-pad and buttons to be that bad. Sure, they are inferior to other PDAs, but not that bad. I would have loved to hang on to the Axim if it weren't for the button lag problem.

Now see, that bugs me. I sure wish we could get a corroborating report (or a counter-report) on the button-lag thing. After all, it isn't like you (RChickenMan) are the only one in the world who played MorphGear on an Axim X30. Why is it so difficult to coax a simple piece of data out of people?

Of course, there's no way to know for certain, because the only other PDA with WM2k3SE is the Toshiba e800 series, which has a button lag anyway. :) On the other hand, one user in the AximSite forums reported that he was playing MorphGear just fine on the Axim.

How very, very strange. :?:

See, this is why I have been flirting with just getting an ultraportable laptop, and to heck with PPCs. What's really frustrating is being at the brink of a new wave of devices, with their own host of issues, which will take at least a couple of months to resolve. Button lags, compatibility, GAPI, speed... blah. Dan East's gamepad solution might take some of the sting out of New Machine trauma though, so let's support him.
