MiniMo ported to Pocket PC (2003)

MiniMo ported to Pocket PC (2003)

Postby Dan East » Mar 9, 2005 @ 4:23am

Gecko, the core rendering engine used to render html in the Mozilla and Firefox browsers, has been ported to Pocket PC in the form of MiniMo. MiniMo (Mini Mozilla) is a stripped down browser utilizing the Gecko engine.

It sounds like this is a very preliminary port (IE "we finally got it to render a webpage"), however once it matures it could be a substantial revolution for web browsing on the PPC.

MiniMo for PPC can be obtained here:

Well, I can't find anyway to specify a proxy server, so I'm unable to test it.

The UI is extremely primitive. The guy that ported it is not a PPC developer, and concentrated mainly on the changes necessary to get it to build. It needs a nice shell (ala something Firefox-like). The key thing here is that by using the Gecko core it would have full html compatibility with "real" browsers like IE and Firefox.

Creating a nice UI will be straightforward. My bigger concern, and what may take some work, is what (if any?) modifications will be required to make the browser intelligent enough to format content to fit a 240x320 PPC screen. Try using Firefox on your PC and scale the window to around 240x320 and you'll see what I mean.

Hey Dan:
1. Where can i download PSX?
2. Any news on a fix or anything that would allow Pocket Wolf, Quake, and Quake II to work on my A730w?
