ASUS A730W and OS language

ASUS A730W and OS language

Postby rinaufr » Sep 14, 2005 @ 7:11am

I bought an A730W through a german dealer and I got the PDA with a german version of the OS. I would like to switch to an English version, but it seems not possible. The dealer couldn't care less and the ASUS support is ridicoulous (the answer is that they cannot help me). No indication about what to do or where I can buy(!) an english version of the OS.
My first experience with ASUS is very disappointing.

I've been told that this is an issue of the Microsoft WM licensing scheme. But the EU market is so wide and it has to deal with so many different languages (in the European Union only there are 25 countries [Member States] speaking 20 different languages...and it is a single market, so I can buy where it is more convenient and should not be forced to have installed THE local language, but have a choice among the available languages. It is something that companies running BIG business here must take into consideration)

Can someone help me? Thanks

Hey Rinaufr. i recently acquired an Amigo pd600 and had the same problem... Being in Pakistan ppc's are hard to come by and thus very very expensive. Anyways, dis PDA is an awesome little thing, except it came default with windows in chinese :S which i dont understand... now as far as i know no one is providing support for my recent acquisition anymore plus it's really old (i think it came out in 2001) so i've been scrambling around... I've learned thru a few sources dat it's possible to flash the rom of the device with another OS.. how far dat is tru or how it's done i'm not sure, but i'm sure sumone here wud know. I dont know bout where u r but luckily here in pk i've come across certain vendors/gadget shops dat do stuff like dis, u know, install stuff on handhelds customise mobile phones, etc. Well i jes gave dem my PDA yesterday and am going to be picking it up today... Apparently they're going to use the IPaq 36xx software on it since it's the closest.. while i happen to think they're ripping me off jes to install windows on it (i wud prefer pocket linux anyways) i dont really have many other choices. Maybe if u looked/asked around u may find sum1 in ur locality dat provides such services?? or check out support sites for the A730. If they manage to get mine working i'll let u know... hopefully i'll learn how it's done too. Best of luck.
