About the 802.11b, If you aren't going to be too far away from your computer with the iPAQ, you could just use two Wireless Ethernet adapters; One PCI version for your desktop and one PC Card(PCMCIA) version for your iPAQ. You will be using them in Ad-Hoc mode which simply means peer-to-peer. Further range can be had at the expenses of speed (i.e. longer distances at slower speeds.)

I finally found a , though it doesn't idicate if it will work on a PocketPC.

I am using the Orinoco PCMCIA gold card with my iPAQ for 802.11 wireless access to my local LAN and it works great. I am also using the Novatel Merlin to access Ricochet wireless network when traveling with the same iPAQ and it too ROCKS!
