Activesync trouble

Activesync trouble

Postby johannpublic » Feb 23, 2002 @ 5:05am

Nuff said.

I had my PPC as a guest on this computer, and now that I want to sync stuff, well...activesync refuses to create a new partnership for my ppc, no matter what i do (change the ppc's device id, my owner info, changing ppc connect speeds, etc...)

how do i change a guest connection to a syncable partnership?
please help me asap (well, as soon as it's convenient for whoever would be so kind as to aid me in this)

in retrospect, this also makes me look REALLY dumb.

Yeah, what Moose said. That should fix the problem.

If not you could always...erm...uninstall ActiveSync and start over! :(

arg! ok it doesn't work, or else i'm incompotent. i'm on a rather limited win2k acct and the admin is away so no luck with the activesync reinstall...

i assume i will just have to back up the ppc and then hard-reset, or something like that...gah.

when you have your ppc as a guest, the "delete partnership" option is greyed out.

eh, nevermind this all...thanks for the help.

i think i found out what the problem is...retarded win2k permissions crap...if you can't modify the "program files" folder, then you're farked when it comes to activesyncing.

hehe, your locked out. My dad's laptop has the same problem. Let me ask you to try this. Run Disk Defrag. Does it give you an error saying that you don't have permission? Good. Now call up the admin, and tell him that you need local admin privlidges because your comp is running like crap and someone sugested to run that deframenter thingy. You will probably have to log onto the network once (asuming that it isn't connect all the time) and then you will be able to install programs to your hearts contect. Just note, after you shut down your comp, you lose those privlidges untill you log on again. Also, they will usually only give you a 6 hour window to do that.

Well depending on how anal your sys/network admin is, just download the Win2k disk that allows you to change the local admin pass and put your acct in as local admin unless it is in an active directory and the global polocies has screwed you over. Just my input, that is how I got the access I needed when no domain admin was around.

The only thing different about my problem, is that I do not have limited permissions on my account.

I am not sure why you mentioned this folder: "c:\program files\microsoft activesync\profiles"

But I tried to locate it on my computer, and there is no profiles folder in my activesync directory.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling activesync, changing device ID, switching USB port, and throwing a fit. It still doesn't connect.

Unfortunatly I don't have another computer I can test it on.
