iPAQ vs Cyber-Shot

iPAQ vs Cyber-Shot

Postby witboy » Mar 17, 2002 @ 8:58pm

Does anyone know if it is possible to connect Sony Cyber Shot P1 digital camera with iPAQ 3870 ? They both use USB cable to connect to PC, but is it possible to connect them to each other ? I don't really want to buy PC card adapter for Memory sticks and PC card expansion for iPAQ to get photos to iPAQ, but it seems the only way so far. Any ideas ?

You can connect digital camera's to the E200 because of it's USB host capabilities, but the iPaq, sadly, does not hold this same functionality. The only option would be to buy a memory card -> PC Card converter, they're relatively cheap, should be less than $30, so there's no monetary reason why that option would not work.

I'm pretty sure that there isn't a direct way to connect the two devices, unless Compaq release some form of USB host expansion & relevant drivers (doubtable). I know you don't wish to buy the PCMCIA sleeve & an adapter as it may work out expensive, but it may interest you to know that i came across a 'MemoryStick' to CF card adapter recently. CF sleeves are much cheaper & more common (you may already have one) so it may be better & smaller solution than the PC card sleeve. Check this link, if you're interested:

Thanks for that, since USB is not an option here, I will go with the PC Card adapter.

that still might not work. it will depend on the availbility of drivewrs to allow you to connect the camera and PPC. my guess is that it will be a long rough road.

Whether or not a Pocket PC has a USB port is moot; Sony would never create drivers for their hardware to work with the Pocket PC OS.
