The battery will last a LOT more with the screen off. The LCD constantly refreshing drains up a lot of the juice from the battery..
..I´m not sure how much more time your PPC will stay working, though.

I'm not sure if it's really the LCD that drains up the battery, I'd rather say it's the backlight.

I had my E-125 lying on the table playing MP3s with the display turned off (using the respective Media Player function), and I could still see an image because of the angle my desk lamp was lighting the device with.

However, the touchscreen didn't react, but I could see the slider moving.

Same thing with my E-125. I can still see a faint image even without external lighting. Very faint, and it updates if I up the volume or as the song progresses. I wondered about it, but it doesn't really bother me.
