Sirdaved,

You should post a quick review over at the Handango website. I would like to see their five star rating drop a couple notches. That glowing review there is so fake. I wonder how long your honest review would last before it is taken down?

They aren't dissing 50% of the PPC community by offering an ARM only version- Mips and SH3 combined don't come close to ARMs sales.

Regardless if you guys think the game is crap, it shouldn't be Warez'd. It just makes the Warez community that much stronger and ends of screwing all the people who are trying really hard to do the right thing.

BUT since SirDaved bought two copies, I guess he could give one to a buddy. How can he possibly run both of them, especially if they are the same processor.

I think what SirDaved did is great- he bought the game to give us the real scoop so that others don't waste their dollars. To bad MachineDorks isn't too favorable around Pocketmatrix and PocketGamer anyway so it is just confirming what we already suspected.

PM and PocketGamer have alot of regulars, but they barely make up a fraction of the PPC userbase. The poor saps/noobs that bumbled their way to Handango will buy it because it is more prominant than the other freeware versions. And they've never heard of Pocketmatrix and Pocketgamer yet (gasp!)

The only way MachineDorks will be affected is if Handango shapes up, and accurate reviews start appearing. Which is EXACTLY the reason why MachineDorks doesn't provide a reviewer copy or a demo. They don't want that to happen.

I don't remember who published the retail version, but they need to get their ass kicked. Somebody needs to get fired, and a complete restructure needs to take place. Allowing that kind of crap to pass through is completely inexcusable.

Handango is going to approach my shit list really quick. They are just fueling the greed machine and crooked behavior. It kind of makes them appear just as guilty as MachineDorks.

Dario:

Actually, 3 days ago I posted a review of DoomPDA on Handango, giving it one star. I was careful to not be insulting or boorish about it. In fact, I was objective to the point that I said it had possibilities if certain things were corrected. Two days later, my review was still not posted. So, just as a test, yesterday I posted another review, this time, being as flexible as possible, I gave it 2 stars and tried to balance my criticism with more constructive comments. As of this moment, that review hasn't been posted either. So what does that tell you?

Randall:

You're right about the ARM market far outweighing the other processors and perhaps I exaggerated somewhat, but I would say that the market for a program like Doom would be relatively higher for other processors than the usual statistics indicate, mainly because a large number of those PPC users with an primary interest in gaming purposely purchased Mips units (eg. E-115, EM500 and E-125) because of there gameboy-like joypad and button placement. Incidentally, trying to play Doom on the Ipaq 36xx or 37xx series is a pain. Likewise, most of the new ARM units have poorly-responsive joypads and useless button placement for gaming, not to mention smaller screens.

Actually, sales figures for most games are consistent with the widespread penetration of ARM devices. Mips devices account for 10% or less of PPC games sold and i don't think that this would be any different for Doom. In fact, it may be even smaller due to more ARM units being purchased all the time & current MIPS users also upgrading. Also explains why a lot of games released are ARM-only nowadays.
