UnderQuest - Beta 2.

UnderQuest - Beta 2.

Postby mordred » Apr 9, 2002 @ 5:53pm

Hi again,

The speed problem (i really expect that i can make 60FPS with this engine, but it was a miracle) seems to be fixed in this second non-official demo of UnderQuest. It was tested with ARM, but still not tested with MIPS and SH3. Anyway - there are new builds for them. Play the game on your own risk :?

Also, please take a look at GargaBall controller who allows you to play only with the stylus - we believe that this is the best way to control a shooter game with pen only... I saw some DOOM (including DoomPDA) which "emulates" software keyboard (or a part of it) to replace the keyboard handling. It's impossible to simulate real game keyboard control where you can press several keys in this way. GargaBall is analog controller which allows you to move and rotate (and shoot if you use the left ball) at once with only one touch of the screen.

Here is the site of the game for PocketPC :

P.S. Thanx to Simon / Xen Games for probes :)

Oh, i forgot... because this is not official version, it doesn't contains any documentation (except one readme file), so you can read the online manual here :

http://gargagames.com/pocketpc/uq/manual.html

And if your PPC has more compatible version of GAPI (gx.dll), you can remove the one which is in the distributive of the demo.

enjoy.

The SH3 version has major speed improvements, but is still running slow. I would say that the SH3 version is running about 50% the speed of the x86 version. I hope this info helps. :D Looking forward to the next version, and by the way, the game looks great. :D

Thanx TechMage!
Hm, this sounds bad. 50% more speed for SH3 :?
We will try of course.

The Jornada 548 has plenty of buttons for directions pluss action buttons. I usually use the two front left buttons for <- and ->, and I use the scroll wheel for up and down. I use the other two right front buttons for action buttons (like A and B), and if I have to, I will use the record button and the push-in button on the scroll wheel for other action buttons (like start and select). I can move right and left, shoot, and move forward, but I can't move backwards on UnderQuest. All the other SH3 action games (like Doom4CE, Hexen, Heretic, and Quake) work fine with this controll layout, but for some reason UnderQuest will not let me move backwards (except with the onscreen controll). If you could fix this, that would be great, because I and many other SH3 gamers would be really dissapointed if all of the buttons work but we have to push backwards on the on-screen controlls to move backwards. In other words, please fix this!

Tech : of course we will do all to make the possible things real :) There is a new version with more speed improvements (i'll update it soon), and i'll try to fix it. The bad thing is that we use EasyCE for graphics and input, and this must be fixed there. We wait one 547 from the store, and the game is not tested from me on real machine :(
