Postby fullerlee » May 7, 2001 @ 2:04pm

on my e125, i have a 1 hour movie, bit rate 67kbps, size 320x240 and audio rate 16khz, the size of the movie is about 30MB and i have it stored on my 64mb cf card.
the problem is that movie keeps feezing, usually only a few seconds into it (never more than a minute) i have nothing else running on the machine.
any ideas?
thanks,
lee

well i noticed that if the bit rate is really low, it seems incredibly jumpy to me, which may look like it freezes.

i don't think it's because it's jumpy. sometimes it will play perfectly for a few seconds and then will suddenly freeze (can still hear the sound). sometimes the picture will update and sometimes, just the sound will continue playing and i have to close the application.

yes that is what i reference to being jumpy. the video and audio becoming very very out of sync. its because the bit-rate is show poo faced.

Try increasing the amount of Program Memory to around 10 megs. I have mine always around 16 megs of free program memory and I every movie I have (encoded at 450KBPS, 320x240, 96kbps audio) all run perfect.

i've increased the amount of free program memory to well over 10 meg, about 18 meg and i stil get the same problem.
the first 10 seconds play perfectly, then the video stops and the sound continues.

apart from it looking a bit grainy and blocky, it plays perfectly, without and jumps or pauses.

Use PocketTV, not Windows Media Preview. It runs a whole lot better: http://www.pockettv.com
It's also free, but you have to send in your email, etc. to get the registration code. It also has many more features than WMP

Isn't pocketTv just for mpegs?
Can I get mpegs down to the size of wmv files with a similar quality? If so, any advice on what settings to use? (I'd like about 30 MB per hour)
Well if you need the files that small than you should use wmv. The smallest you can get mpeg with descent quality is 1mb/minute. Of course mpeg is a nicer quality and PocketTV can play in landscape.

PocketTV also plays WMV. And how could you say that 1MB a minute is the smallest aesthetically pleasing video you can make in MPEG format. I HATE MICROSOFT'S ENCODERS SO MUCH!

Well, I guess it is all about what you consider "quality" because my mpeg's are 3mb/minute and I wouldnt go lower if it would sacrifice quality. While I hear some other people prefer 1mb/minute for better file size and less quality. Therefore, I said 1mb/minute ok?
