Who here uses their POCKET PC for mainly entertainment

Postby Nell » Oct 29, 2003 @ 7:15am

I;m thinking of putting down $300 this Thanksgiving for an Asus 620 but I am debating whether it is worth the money if I'm only gonna use it for movies, games, and other little stuff...How are the games??? I was amazed when I saw the Asus playing Final Fantasy 7 but does the emu have sound yet??? How are the other emus??? I was thinking of putting Metal Gear 2 on it but I don;t know if their;s a MSX emu yet...Oh does anyone use MSN Messenger ontheir pocket pc I would love the idea of being able to chat with my friends anywhere in the house instead of being stuck to my desktop in my room...Should I get the 620BT version or get a compact Flash wireless??? I don;t have Bluetooth router or hub but I do have a 802.11 wireless router so which would be the cheaper solution for me??? Also can I use a keyboad to chat with or am I limited to the onscreen keyboard???

well im in a bit of a rush this morning, I will quickly answer a few of your Q's. I use my A620 mainly for entertainment with a little work on the side. Its a brilliant games machine and video player, because it is the fastest pocket pc available.
The playstation emu has no sound, and the fps are a little bit strange, it may say its going 30 but it doesnt feel like it. I have tried destruction derby it feels slow, but is playable. Snes on the other hand is great and is plenty fast enough.
On to the internet questions, if you have a wireless network then you can buy a wifi cf card, that would be best for browsing the internet around your house. You can buy a fold out full size keyboard for the asus, it folds out from slightly bigger than the asus itself, to become a full qwerty keyboard. Once you get good with the on screen keyboard it is possible to do msn using the normal net shortcuts Ie

u, tbh ,wtf!!!???111, cu ,lo etc etc

Hope this helps you

I use my PDA as a glorified USB memory stick. You know, those kind people put on their keychains, and have like 128 megs of storage. I move a lot of files between all of my desks at home and my offices.

When I'm not doing that, I enjoy the multimedia aspects of ppc. Gaming, mostly NES since it's easier to play on a ppc (less buttons), music videos, and avantgo. I'm an avantgo whore.

These little suckers can do pretty much whatever you want them to.

Oh yeah, they sell external keyboards compatible with most ppc, check with your manufacturer first.

I use mine for gaming like when I am waiting at the doctors office, the ride to and from school to my house, like 30 mins, when I gets bored at home of my desktop or if I get areally cool new game, and when I go sleep over at someones house in case I stay up later than them or wake up before them. I also do the rough draft of my school reports on it when I am away, or touch up an existing report in my spare time. I just recently used it to write up a author report without my mom knowing because I waited until the last day to do it. I also watch movies on it, like the south park movie and bad boys 2 when I compress them with RAD. I also listen to music and use if for trips also. I use it not to miss homework assignments also and to make my friends jealous :P . 8O 8O 8O crap I typed all this and didn't even answer the friggin questions 8O 8O 8O
Ok so err... yes the games are good
no the emu doesn't have sound
well yeah get a compact flash wireless but then you can't put in extra memory when using it.
8O I didn't even know they had bluetooth routers
and yes you can use an external keyboard
You don't have to Ax me, you can Ax'im. Go buy Tower Mogul at http://www.esoftinteractive.com/ppc-tm.html its a great game.
