Which PPC to buy???

Which PPC to buy???

Postby Kyo28 » Mar 17, 2004 @ 11:23pm

Hello!
I’m new here but I have a rather important question (at least it is to me). I’ve read a lot of posts on your board, but still I’m puzzled. I’m planning to buy my first PPC and I have my eye on some models, but still I’m not sure which one is best for me. I would be interested to hear from your personal experiences or to read reviews. My situation is somewhat ‘out of the ordinary’, as you’ll see.

The reasons I want to buy a PPC are:
- using it to study Japanese with a PPC soft called KanjiKing

- Use Word, Outlook, Acrobat Reader and to a lesser extent XL
- listening to music (MP3)
- Watching .avis (TV shows I recorded myself)
I might also play a game from time to time, but that’s very rare and not important at all to me. If I do, then it would most probably be emulated games (Famicom, Super Famicom, etc)

One more important point to note is that I’ll need a PPC running JAPANESE soft, since I study Japanese and spend half of my time there. That means Japanese OS & Office applications. That is the reason (along with the worldwide guarantee) that I’m interested in some models of Toshiba, either the ‘US models’ or the Japanese ones:

It would also be handy if I can connect a Japanese keyboard to it with USB.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback you can give me. Thanks in advance!

No, I've never seen that, I've never seen anyone drive their garbage out to the curb and bang the hell out of it with a stick. No, I've never seen that.

Whoa! Thank you. I didn't expect to get so much feedback :D
I've noticed some of you are indeed big fans of Asus, yeah.

Well, what would be important to me, except what I've already said in my first post, is that the screen is not too small (Japanese characters are very small and detailed, so a big screen is convenient, say 3.8" or even 4").
Furthermore, dual slot seems nice to me. I don't know if it works like this but I want my software installed on the MC card (or internal memory, whatever) and keep my SD slot purely for data.
Also, I've been wondering if it's possible to have a 'multiboot' like I do with my desktop PC (say Windows Mobile 2003 US and JP on the same machine, with choice of OS at bootup).
