OMG! Jadam, are you on some personal crusade to make sure everyone realises how great the BE300 (& the Mips cpu) is? I seem to notice that every single one of your posts so far has been related to this topic. Nobody is particularly interested, and very few people like to read lengthy propoganda posts complete with life-size pictures! Although, i do think that some BE300 developers have managed to do quite well with the non-standard, badly-designed Casio palm beater, but PPC users aren't gonna trade in their devices just so they can play with nice-looking, unfinished gui's and a limited quantity of software.

Sell the Mips device Jadam, join us in the high-performance world of ARM PocketPC's....

So you have CE 2.10 HPC running on a Palm-sized device? I'm sure there would be dozens of dialog boxes that are unusable because they were designed for landscape screens at 480x240. The list of quirks and incompatibilities would be massive. I also commend what is being done with the device, and it is absolutely the most powerful hardware you can get for less than $200. But, it certainly is not mainstream, and has been said, is based on a processor Microsoft no longer supports. Many 3rd party developers are quickly following suite and dropping support for it as well. And, regardless specifications that may indicate otherwise, the ARM processor greatly outperforms MIPS in the real world environment. Claiming that "an assembly coding guru could make MIPS outperform ARM if every single line of code was hand-written in assembly" is totally unrealistic. If similar optimization was spent on ARM then it would still stay in the lead (actually, we are finally to the point when this can occur, since developers can now focus their efforts on a single processor).

What is really needed (and the legality could be questionable) is to take the publicly available CE 3.0 sources, and build from that. The Shell and several other libraries would probably have to be created from scratch (SIP, etc), but that would be the way to go. The goal of course would be to produce something 100% compatible with Pocket PC.

A small Request. Could we please not post HUGE images here. It makes it impossible to use the forums in PIE.

Just post a link, and that will suffice. The forums are slow enough as is. Adding these ridiculously large images is just plain rude.

Plus you have violated copywrite by reposting THE ENTIRE ARTICLE!!! (probably without permission). To reitterate a link to the article would have sufficed.

I know this is a bit anal of me, but this is supposed to be PPC friendly and with this it's not.

Microsoft not supporting MIPS anymore?? where did you get that from. PocketPC2002 doesnt support MIPS, but WinDowsCE.NET Does! and we are going to have two different versions of CE.NET . Casios CE.NET-which who knows what it will be like, but it will have IE and WMP.
PPC Mikes version of CE.NET- which will be very very tweakable and will kick that 4mb limit in the ars(hehe, if that does happen, Im ganna work on porting PQ to the BE-300!!)
Linux-hehe, were getting linux also, and these people are trying to put Qtopia on it(the UI used in The Sharp Zaurus)
and the normal "retarted" GUI

and no im not saying MIPS kill ARM, but, I like MIPS, I like SGI machines(getting one:) ) My PS2 uses MIPS(tho a different version than this one), and my Pocket thingy uses MIPS. our compiler sux, thats why most things dont work good on our MIPS processor for pocket thingys.

Also many people are forced to buy $500 pocketPC because they dont want an ugly palm, when they good spend $180 for this beauty(not the case(the tweakability))they get color, mp3, DivX, video, games, blah, blah. I think its a great alternative to the new $500 pocketPC's if you dont have the money. If you do have the money, then get an ARM device and eat your hear out!

My original point still stands. A simple link would have sufficed.
