I am thrilled to hear of a new RPG for the PPC. It looks really nice. :D

Very impressive.

I really like these types of games. Reminds me of the old SNES RPGs(especially FF) that many of us enjoyed. I have been waiting for one of these to come out for a long time.

I prefer D-Pad also because it reminds me of a controller, but a switch mode would be nice.

Keep up the good work!

So now I have a very unimportant yet undecidable problem. I am working on NPC dialog and before I actually display anything on screen....I can't decide where to put it! Heheh. It would be a windowed text that takes up less than half of the screen. But should it be on the top or on the bottom? B/c at this point, the player is always in the center (close rather), so pretty much you are going to see him and whomever you are talking to regardless. Not a major dilemma or anything, but if anyone has a preference feel free to voice it now rather than later :)

Most SNES RPGs had the menus on the top left(or top center) portion(if i'm remembering correctly!) of the screen. That always seemed fitting and was never a problem. With the PPC I think top would be perfect because the portrait view would fit that style well.

Many RPGs often put it on the top or the bottom, depending on the positioning of the character and NPC.

Yeah. I remember that. But I don't believe my dialog windows will be large enough to cover both NPC and player. So using that as a means of discretion doesn't work very well. I'll start with the top of the screen then for now.

Thanks for the input.

I decided for the top third of the screen. Not that anyone cares, but thought I'd just keep posting to keep me going. :)

I always liked text boxes that looked like little floating boxes or windows like in all those SNES games like Earthbound and FF. And you can always slide the viewpoint up as the text box appears so that the character remains centered on the visible play field. Twould be a cool effect, too.

Hmm. I like that idea. I think I will have it so that a window pops up then when u enter an area..giving the name of that area...and it floats for i dunno..3-5 seconds while you move around. What you say to that?

Good idea indeed.

JJB: Don't have it just a black bar, put the text in a border like JS said.

Hey JongJungBu, did you draw all the sprites and tiles in your RPG engine? If so, well done. They look very very nice. Just like the SNES and some PS1 bird's eye RPG sprites and tiles.
